Education and Research

Young people are at the heart of the Sainsbury Centre’s work and there are many opportunities to explore practical making activities, to work with artists and to explore new approaches to teaching visual arts in ways which allow for imaginative applications. Resources for teachers, parents and carers can be found on our resources page.

Programmes include:

School visits

The Sainsbury Centre’s excellent team of volunteer guides offer free general introductory guided tours, or more specialist themed tours if booked in advance. Artist Consultants may also be booked to help with practical work in the gallery or in school.

You will find information about courses for teachers in Courses and Conferences.

Half-term and holiday workshops

Every season the Centre offers a new programme of half- or whole-day practical workshops during half-terms and holidays. These are themed to relate to special exhibitions and require no prior experience, but always teach new observational and practical skills in a supportive and encouraging environment. The Sainsbury Centre offers activities for all age groups and abilities.
