Governance

The Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts is the museum and gallery of the University of East Anglia. It is governed by the Sainsbury Centre Board, a committee of UEA Council � the University�s overall governing body. View our current Board members and the Board's terms of referencee.

Vision

The Sainsbury Centre's vision is to inspire, stimulate and collaborate through excellence in the care and display of collections, temporary exhibitions, scholarly research and educational and public provision.

Funding

The Sainsbury Centre has an annual turnover of between �1 and 1.5 million. Download our most recent Annual Report (PDF: 54K)��. Our funders are:

  • The Arts and Humanities Research Board, under the museums and galleries programme
  • The University of East Anglia
  • The Gatsby Charitable Trust
  • The Sainsbury Centre Endowment Fund

Visitors

The Sainsbury Centre galleries attract around 40,000 visits a year to exhibitions and events, 10,000 of which are made by young people in school groups. The galleries, caf�, restaurant and School of World Art are used by over 150,000 people a year.

How big is the building?

The main building and Crescent Wing cover a total area of around 6,000m2. The main permanent gallery � the Living Area - is 1,200m2, and there are over 700m2 of temporary exhibition space � making the Sainsbury Centre one of the largest venues for special exhibitions outside London.

Other activities in the building

In addition to the gallery operation, the Sainsbury Centre building houses two other distinct areas of activity:

  • UEA's School of World Art Studies and Museology, including the Sainsbury Research Unit and Museology units.
  • Catering: the Gallery Caf� and the Restaurant/Buffet are operated by UEA Catering Services.
  • UEA Estates Division looks after the building and provides all building related services.
