Le Corbusier was the pseudonym used by Charles-douard Jeanneret, the Swiss-born pioneer of functionalist design and international style architecture in the early 20th century. Corbusier was impressed by tubular metal chairs designed by Mart Stam, Marcel Breuer and Mies Van der Rohe and exhibited in 1927. However, for his Grand Confort chair Corbusier used the linear strength of tubular steel to make a chair in cubic block form with a chrome exterior skeleton.
