Houseago is considered to be one of the most significant contemporary artists working today. Using materials such as wood, clay, hessian, plaster and bronze, he creates work that is raw and visceral, and a reminder of the power of figurative art. This is an opportunity to see Houseago's work in relation to 20th century artists in the Sainsbury Collection such as Henry Moore and Jacob Epstein. Hermaphrodite will be displayed alongside Henry Moore's Draped Reclining Woman, from the Robert and Lisa Sainsbury Collection.

Born in Leeds in 1972, Houseago lives and works in Los Angeles. His work has been shown in two recent solo exhibitions: The Beat of the Show at Inverleith House, Edinburgh and What Went Down in Germany, France and the UK.
