MODERNSpring 2012 saw the beginning of an exciting new development which in the coming year will transform the west end of the Sainsbury Centre. Exhibitions of modern and contemporary art, a new caf� bar and a sculpture garden will all be themed around the 'Modern'. The west end of the Sainsbury Centre offers a space to enjoy art, relax and socialise. Entry is free. |

ModernismsOn the mezzanine, the Modernisms display explores ideas in modern art and design over the last hundred years. The opening display, The First Moderns: Art Nouveau, from Nature to Abstraction, features works from the Centre�s Anderson Collection of Art Nouveau alongside loans from other public collections including the V&A and Glasgow School of Art as well as from various private collections.

Next ModernNext Modern is an exhibition programme dedicated to contemporary art, showing the work of emerging artists and designers from all over the world. The second exhibition in the Sainsbury Centre�s Next Modern series showcases the work of British-born artist Thomas Houseago in a display of sculpture inside the building and outside in the Sculpture Garden. |
