The jewellery in the Anderson Collection demonstrates many of the styles associated with Art Nouveau incorporating imagery inspired by nature, sinuous figures of women and the curvilinear abstraction inspired by Japanese graphics. These new stylistic approaches were applied to valuable unique pieces such as those made by Ren Lalique and Georges Fouquet in Paris, both of whom are represented in the Collection, as well as to more extensively produced costume jewellery. Craftsmen working in the new style developed the use of relatively inexpensive materials such as horn, glass and pliqu jour enamel alongside semi-precious and precious stones.
