The architectural and theatrical models in the collection demonstrate the engagement of artists with architects in the early 20th century and the application of their aesthetic interests across a range of disciplines. The model of Le Corbusiers Villa la Roche Jeanneret incorporated a full height gallery for displaying paintings, including those by the architect himself.
In the early 1970s the collection acquired a group of models, theatre sets and furniture by designers inspired by the Russian revolution, such as Lissitzky, Tatlin, Melnikov, the Vesnin brothers and Popova. These models had been made for the Art in Revolution exhibition organised by the Arts Council in 1971.
