Hidden from view behind large-scale commerical farms is a largely forgotten rural world where traditional methods and knowledge are still very much depended upon and the identity of the people is closely shaped by the landscape in which they live and work.
Over the past eight years, Norfolk-born Justin Partyka has been photographing rural East Anglia. His project has taken him to farms across Norfolk and Suffolk and into Cambridgeshire, meeting people with fascinating stories to tell, many of whom have been farming in the region for generations.
The East Anglians comprises 58 colour photographs. They feature people harvesting and working the land using traditional methods, skilled rural workers such as reed cutters and rabbit catchers, and farmhouses and farms where time appears to have stood still. Other images, such as those of farm sales, abandoned buildings and deteriorating machinery, together tell the familiar story of rural decline.
