Whilst the Sainsbury Centre galleries are closed to the public, a selection of work from the UEA Collection of Abstract and Constructivist Art, Architecture and Design, which is normally displayed on the West Mezzanine, is now on show in the Elizabeth Fry Building.

The UEA Collection of Abstract and Constructivist Art, Architecture and Design began in 1968 with a modest capital grant from the University Council. Peter Lasko and Alastair Grieve, of the School of Fine Arts and Music, became the founding honorary curators and worked together to identify works for the collection. Beginning from the perspective of 1960s kinetic art and multiples they formed an interest in the non-objective and constructive art movements of the 20th century, such as the English Vorticists, the Russian Suprematists and Constructivists, the Dutch De Stijl Group and the German Bauhaus School. This led them to consider not only sculpture, paintings and graphics but also aspects of design such as architectural models and furniture.

A small selection of work from this collection can now be viewed in the display windows of the Elizabeth Fry Building. The artists represented include Roger Ackling, Joost Baljeu, Harry Bertoia, Max Bill, Marcel Breuer, Helmut Bruch, Sergei Chermayeff, Lygia Clark, Adrian Heath, Michael Kidner, Francois Morellet, Ernest Race, Henryk Stazewski and Mary Webb.
