Slet

23rd Sep 2008 - 14th Dec 2008

Slet is inspired by Sokol, a Czech public exercise and cultural movement founded by Dr Miroslav Tyrs in 1862 that continues today.

Slet (Czech for a flocking of birds) is a new project by artist Caroline Jupp with Felicity Croyden, which brings people together to exercise at sites of modern architecture. The pilot, Exercise for Aalto, was held at the Barbican in June 2007.

The Link exhibition documents their project. Archive photographs of mass Sokol events will be on display alongside images and video of contemporary events organised, choreographed and recorded by Caroline Jupp and Felicity Croydon. Slets were held at the Sainsbury Centre and in Cromer, Norfolk, during summer 2008 and images of these will be included in the show. A library of keep-fit books will also be on display.
