As part of the Out There project all of the eight artists will visit UEA for a two day research trip. As well as meeting Sainsbury Centre staff and engaging in discussions about the practical aspects of the project, the artists will spend time walking around the parkland, getting a feel for the place and selecting a site where they would like to make their work when the residencies begin in mid-June.

El Anatsui, Fiona Foley and Bogdan Achimescu visited the Sainsbury Centre on Monday 18th and Tuesday 19th April. El flew in from Nigeria, Fiona from Brisbane, Australia and Bogdan fitted the visit between two appointments in the USA.

We werent blessed with the good weather of the previous two site visits but, despite the damp conditions and grey skies, the artists were pleased to see the UEA parkland and the opportunities it offered for places to site works. Most of the artists came to the research visit with some ideas of what they might like to make or current issues around which they are currently working and it has been interesting to see the process through which these ideas are developed and transformed, once they are here, in response to the site itself.

The diversity of work being proposed by the artists is very exciting and as the site visits progress, and the artists meet us and each other, we are getting a very real sense of the project coming together as a whole.
