The Robert and Lisa Sainsbury Collection has doubled in size since the Centre opened in 1978 and this exhibition highlighted some of the most remarkable additions made to the Collection in recent years whilst also focusing on Sir Robert and Lisa Sainsburys support for living artists. Objects on display included a tiger painting by the 18th century Japanese master Maruyama Okyo, a still life by Morandi, works on paper by Christo, photographs by Andy Goldsworthy, Amish quilts, exquisite 17th century Raised embroidery, recent ceramics by Rupert Spira and a new portrait of Lisa Sainsbury by Clare Shenstone.

Designed by Norman Foster, the Sainsbury Centre building itself is one of the greatest assets of the Collection, and is central to this celebration. Twenty five years on, this exhibition demonstrated the considerable impact that Sir Robert and Lady Sainsburys extraordinarily generous gift has had on both the University and the region.

A catalogue celebrating 25 years of the SCVA, with contributions by Norman Foster, Nichola Johnson, Nicole Rousmanire, Steven Hooper, T.A Heslop, Amanda Geitner and George Sexton is available from Cornerhouse Publications.
