Featuring a range of contemporary seating designs, from the elegant and beautiful to the funky and fun, this interactive exhibition demonstrated sitting as the most natural position for the human form.

Sitting Pretty included work by some of the worlds most innovative designers. Among the diverse range of exhibits on display was the two-seater Butterfly Chair for lovers to relax in by Byron Miller of Fusion; Boo! chairs which light up as you sit on them; a chair incorporating fibre optics which change in colour and light intensity by Ansel Thompson, and moulded chairs which resembled a futuristic landscape by Karim Rashid.
Sitting Pretty also featured work by Eoos, Jyri Kermik, Eley Kishimoto, Langlands and Bell, Claudio Silvestrin and Wowdesigners.
Sitting Pretty was organised by English Heritage for an exhibition at Belsay Hall, Northumberland in Summer 2002, and it is with their kind permission that it was shown at the Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts. The exhibition was curated by Judith King.
