Bucket man
1974
John Davies
Mixed media
h. 195.6 cm
UEA 597Bucket Man is an example of John Davies early work in which figures are engaged in ambiguous activities. The combination of startling realism at first glance this figure can appear very much alive and the slightly absurd headdress, paint splattered suit and buckets provides Bucket Man with a compelling sense of mystery.
This figure is one of 58 drawings and sculptures by Davies that the Sainsburys have acquired for the Collection throughout the last three decades.
