The collection of Egyptian objects spans the Predynastic period (c. 4000 BC) to the Roman period (AD 323), covering themes of death, re-birth and everyday life. There is an emphasis on small-scale sculpture and a notable selection of pieces in faience (glazed and fired earthenware). The collection comprises figures, animals, goddesses and funerary objects. Some of the smaller pieces also form part of the toy department a collection of miniature heads and figures that illustrate Robert Sainsburys passion for small objects.
