Encompassing the islands of Polynesia (including New Zealand, Fiji and the Cook Islands), Melanesia (including New Guinea and the Solomon Islands), Australia and Indonesia, the Pacific collection contains objects dating from the 18th to the 20th century that illustrate the diverse cultures of this region. Many works may have represented Gods, honouring the deceased or to act as guardian spirits.
